Matlab 7 bajo Ubuntu 8.04 y error con mex -setup

Tengo matlab 7 bajo ubuntu 8.4 kernel 2.6.24-16-generic y al hacer mex -setup da error. Probé con lo indicado en www.mathworks.com/support y las indicaciones de instalación que encontré en algunos foros, pero no soluciono el problema ¿alguien tiene idea sobre el error? Muchas gracias.
