The default database server name that the INFORMIXSERVER environment variable specifies must be a valid database server name in the file $INFORMIXDIR/etc/sqlhosts on UNIX or the registry on Windows. Check that the specified server is listed in the sqlhosts file or the registry.

Como intentas conectarte?
Verifica el nombre de tu instancia en el onconfig (es el parametro DBSERVERNAME) debe ser el mismo nombre que tengas en tu archivo sqlhosts, en tus variables de ambiente y en tus puertos de salida(archivo /etc/services).

El error que te manda es que no checa el nombre de tu Informixserver, por eso te pregunto que como estas intentando conectarte, para ver donde mas puede estar tu error. Si estas usando el informixcli verifica estos valores.
