MySQL - Obtener mm de datetime

Mi problema es el siguiente: quiero obtener el mes en formato mm o cualquier otro formato, de una fecha de tipo datetime, como lo hago?

MONTH(date)
Returns the month for date, in the range 1 to 12:
mysql> select MONTH('1998-02-03');
-> 2

MONTHNAME(date)
Returns the name of the month for date:
mysql> select MONTHNAME("1998-02-05");
-> 'February'
