Visual Basic - Un problema con Visual Basic

Tengo un problema con Visual Basic, concretamente al instalarlo. Tengo Windows XP Profesional con SP1a y todos los parches hasta el momento. Funciona perfectamente.

El problema es que al instalar el Visual Studio 6.0, el instalador se me cuelga y no puedo instalar ningún programa, incluyendo al Visual Basic. El caso es que antes, con el XP Home Edition funcionaba correctamente.

¿Alguien sabe a qué puede ser debido? Estaría profundamente agradecido. Un saludo y gracias de antemano.

PD: el error que me sale es el siguiente:

vs60wiz.exe ha detectado un problema y debe cerrarse. Si está en pleno proceso, puede perderse la información con la que esté trabajando.

Ahhh ... my installation is finally running, without the registry file above. I found this link:

The gist is, from a command prompt, go to your installation CD root directory ...
* regedit /s key.dat
* acmboot /k "0123456789", where "0123456789" is your CD key with no dash

I've tried this VC6 installation and the VB6 installation as well soooo many times, gave up and tried to upgrade the sources to .Net 2005. But, I got yet another VS6 component with source today. I just happened to stumble upon this other answer.
