Ayuda!: Debian no me reconoce placa ethernet

Soy nueva en Linux, pero se me derrumba todo cuando al querer instalar Debian sarge 3.1 r2 no me reconoce mi placa de red.

Tengo una notebook Compraq Presario 17XL474 y la placa dice ser "Compaq 10_100 MiniPCI Ethernet NIC". En W2K me funcionaba perfectamente (irq=9 io=0x1400) y aca probe distintas placas del menu y todas dan error.

Lo curioso es que si booteo con un Live CD de Slax, me reconoce todo perfectamente. Revise el archivo /var/log/dmesg y no veo nada relevante respecto a la placa de red. (seguramente es porque no lo entiendo mucho)

hola, si es un winmodem no te va a andar en los linux, al menos yo no he podido andar ningun winmodem en gentoo pero verifica eso.
